Not surprisingly, when a group announced that they intended to build a
mosque and Muslim community center right near ground zero, they were
met with anger from the American public. Many Americans felt that the
action was both insensitive and intentional.
Of course, President Obama is in support of the construction.
“As a citizen, and as president, I believe that Muslims have the same right to practice their religion as anyone else in this country,” Obama announced.
“I understand the emotions that this issue engenders,” he continued. “Ground zero is, indeed, hallowed ground. This is America, and our commitment to religious freedom must be unshakable. The principle that people of all faiths are welcome in this country, and will not be treated differently by their government, is essential to who we are.”
Of course, once again Obama is prioritizing the rights of Muslims’ over the security of the rest of the American people.
