Stockman challenges Congress to stop illegal Obama cash to terrorists
Press Release
White House announces Monday Obama will break law to provide millions to group committed to killing Jews
The Obama administration announced Monday Obama would recognize and finance the Palestinian government, which was jointly organized with HAMAS terrorists. That announcement violates a federal law prohibiting any support to HAMAS.
“Barack Obama broke the law to funnel $440 million a year to terrorists committed to killing Jews. It’s not just blatantly illegal, it’s blatantly immoral,” said Stockman. “My staff is currently reviewing all legislative remedies available to stop Obama’s latest illegal use of taxpayer money.”
“Richard Nixon, talking about his illegal activity in the Watergate scandal, told David Frost, ‘When the President does it, that means it is not illegal,’” said Stockman. “Obama has gone full Nixon with his latest declaration the law does not apply to him.”
“Will Congress allow itself to become irrelevant? If the House is going to let Obama make up his own laws we may as well just dissolve the Constitution and go home,” said Stockman. “There is no free country where the president is above the law or can declare himself his own Congress.”
A 2012 federal law prohibits foreign aid to “any entity effectively controlled by Hamas, any power-sharing government of which Hamas is a member, or that results from an agreement with Hamas and over which Hamas exercises undue influence.” The law provides no waiver mechanism allowing the President to ignore it.
“[We’re] deeply disappointed,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu tells Time magazine. “Hamas is a terrorist organization that calls for Israel’s destruction, and the international community must not embrace it. That would not bolster peace. It would strengthen terror.”
Steve Stockman moves to stop Obama's illegal $440 million transfer to HAMAS-connected government
Texas Congressman Steve Stockman announced in a press release Tuesday that he filed legislation to stop the Obama administration from funding the joint Palestinian Authority-HAMAS interim government.
Stockman's bill, the “Stop Funding Terrorism Act,” blocks “any direct United States assistance, loan guarantee, or debt relief to the Palestinian Authority, or any affiliated governing entity or leadership organization.”
On June 2nd, the White House announced that it would work with the new Palestinian government, including financing the newly formed governoring body. One key issue that the Obama Administration over-looked is that the newly Palestinian Authority was jointly organized with HAMAS terrorists. That announcement violates a federal law prohibiting any support to HAMAS.
Federal law prohibits foreign aid to “any entity effectively controlled by Hamas, any power-sharing government of which Hamas is a member, or that results from an agreement with Hamas and over which Hamas exercises undue influence.” There is no lanaguage present in the bill that allows the president to ignore its provisions.
“Barack Obama broke the law to funnel $440 million a year to terrorists committed to killing Jews. If federal law isn’t clear enough to President Obama, perhaps we need to be more direct,” said Stockman. “The ‘Stop Funding Terrorism Act’ removes any loopholes Obama is using to give U.S. taxpayer dollars to terrorist groups.”
