French Shooting Update: Reports Claim One Suspect Surrendered to Police

Update 8:45PM EST: NBC’s Pete Williams has issued a caveat to their reporting, according to The Wrap: “To be fair here we just don’t know exactly what the situation is in France.” Meanwhile, other sources, including ABC News and French media sources, claim French police officials have confirmed that the youngest of the three suspects, 18-year-old Hamyd Mourad, has surrendered to authorities.
U.S. counterterrorism officials report one of three suspects who attacked Charlie Hebdo has been killed and the two others are in custody.



According to NBC News, the three suspects were identified as Said Kouachi and Cherif Kouachi–both in their 30s, both French–and 18-year-old Hamyd Mourad, “whose nationality wasn’t immediately clear.” The counterterrorism officials did not say which of the three suspects is dead.
Cherif Kouachi “was convicted in 2008 of terrorism charges for helping funnel fighters into Iraq’s insurgency.”  He was sentenced to a year and a half in prison.
Breitbart News previously reported three “black-hooded men” stormed into Charlie Hebdo headquarters with AK-47s on January 7, killing twelve–including two police officers. They wounded 10 others.
A FranceInfoTV video that captured the end of the attack recorded the gunmen yelling “Allahu Akbar” before firing their last shots and climbing into their getaway car.
